About James
James was born in Manchester in 1966, in a family with four sisters! James' family moved to Derbyshire in 1977. During his school years James was a keen sportsman, particularly in basketball and also athletics; in the latter James represented North West Derbyshire throwing the Javelin. James also held down a part-time job working in a butchers shop, and this interest led to James studying Meat Technology at Salford College of Technology. James came third in the student section of the "Best in Britain Black Pudding" Competition!
James' first vocation was butcher and about this time James learnt to drive. It was a common occurrence for James to stall the car during his lessons, infact James stalled the car during his driving test but he still passed; he was very good indeed at following the correct procedure for restarting the car! James then bought his first car, a second hand mustard coloured Lada!
James moved into store management working for Jacksons Convenience Stores in Yorkshire. He married in 1999 and later moved to Milton Keynes in 2002. James diversified by becoming store manager at Birthdays.
Having become a father, in 2006 James decided to change career to something more family friendly. James' interest in driving, experience in working with the public, his calm and approachable nature, and lots of patience(!) made becoming a driving instructor a natural choice. James completing the "AA Instructor Training Programme", qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), and joined the Drivewell School of Motoring in 2008. James started working for himself in 2009 as "TRAVIS School of Motoring". His aim is to provide excellent quality training at very competitive prices.
In 2014, James was awarded Grade 'A' approved driving instructor by the DSA and has been ever since. This is the highest grade an instructor can achieve.
